A student has a breakthrough!

You have said that one day when we least expect it, we could feel what it is like to have Qi flow freely through our body.

I was more than content with just feeling Qi between my hands or have it just flow from my fingers. And then, as I was trying the new standing practice and getting more and more into that spot "where you can stand forever", it just happened.

As I took a deep, deep breath... Qi shot straight up my back; into my shoulders, over my head and all the way back to the tan tien. It felt like a ripple of energy or an electric charge (without the shock), I don't quite know how to describe the feeling. And...yes! it did make me ask: what on earth was that? followed by, where can I get some more of it?

Of course after having felt something very new and powerful, I did try (and briefly succeeded) to reproduce the feeling. The more I concentrated on my breathing and what the Qi was doing and where it was going, the more I indulged in the practice.

This could seem to be a success but after a while, I didn't think so anymore and I noticed that I was forcing the issue and not concentrating on the most important part of the experience. I think that the first surge of Qi was a natural response to total relaxation, of letting go of the negative, the stagnant energy, the thousand things that run around my mind every second of the day. By concentrating on the end result I lost sight of the journey.

You confirmed that I was right to think that I should not force the experience and that it should be a natural occurrence...I agree. I now know what it feels like. I hope that in the future, I will reach a certain stage in my practice when I will have this free flow of energy happen as a matter of fact.  But for now, I am happy to be right where I started...with Qi flowing between my hands.

These types of moments are the result of the 3P's - practice, patience, perserverance and LETTING GO!
