Got what it takes?

“Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.”
Albert Einstein
Last night at class we talked a little about the frustrations of “getting” push hands. One of the students indicated that because there was so much to learn they would loose the understanding of a drill or technique before we practiced it again a few months later. Another student mentioned the impossibility of finding the right “file” in the brain, remembering it and putting it into practice in real time while pushing.
My answer to both of these students was to relax, be patient, keep learning, keep practicing and stay the course.
It is said that it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill. That equates to 3 hours every day for roughly 10 years. Now that’s commitment.
I don’t expect mastery from any student, what I expect is what Albert is alluding to in the above quote, well maybe not devotion, but certainly a substantial level of commitment.
Keep training and keep smiling!
Cheers
Rod
