Kyusho = Vital Points

14/09/2012 14:49

I'll be travelling down to Woodstock on Saturday to meet up with one of two Kyusho International study group leaders in Canada.

Kyusho means "vital point." A vital point is usually a plexus or nerve center or where nerves meet and form a "Y" or a nerve ending but there are other vital points as well such as certain tendons, arteries or "soft spots."

Kyusho pertains to learning how to manipulate these vital points for health purposes or for physical manipulation such as disarming an opponent or even knockout applications.

I have been interested in vital point training for a few years now as I came to realize that the open hand forms depict specific techniques that are over and above the readily seen applications.

Lately I have been delving into vital point striking using the 40 forms as my default set.

There's a lot in there.

If all goes well tomorrow, I just might start up a kyusho study group here in Barrie. If anyone is interested in this training please shoot me an email. Club affliation will not be required. This training will be held once per month and will be open to all martial artists and training modalities.

Cheers

Rod
