Push Hands in the Park
28/05/2012 07:34We had our 1st push hands session in the park yesterday and it was a lot of fun. I love our form of push hands because it is not competative or aggressive and yet we learn so much from its practice.
We started off with just the basic pattern and learning to be soft and attentive. Learning to keep the shoulders relaxed! We stressed the fundamentals of controlling the wrist and elbow and offering proper targets for your partner. We also stressed that it is imperative to keep peng until you pass the center line going into lu.
We also managed to work through two changes. By the end of the session the students were starting to be able to "play" push hands. No doubt it will take a while to introduce the rest of the basics but I think we'll have a lot of fun this summer and we'll develop so good players.
So here's an invitation to anyone in our area to come out and push with us. There's no charge. All you need is a friendly disposition and a willingness to play.
Cheers,
Rod
