Qigong is NOT a quick fix
30/06/2011 10:25Qigong is not so much a physical exercise as it is an energetic practice.
Throughout any Qigong set one should endeavor to remain rooted yet light and flexible. It is the awareness and circulation of energy that one should be focused on.
Of course, to accomplish this energetic connection it is imperative to have proper structural alignment and complete relaxation. So to that end, please search this site for “Qigong mode” to become acquainted with the four basic principles required to get to a heightened state of awareness.
Once in Qigong mode one can focus on the energetic aspects of the practice with more connection. Circulation of energy either within the microcosmic orbit, macrocosmic orbit or various other pathways is the ultimate goal.
It is the circulation of energy that will open up the energy channels and push out any blockages or kick start any stagnant qi so that it starts to flow again.
I explain this principle using the body’s artery system. If your arteries get blocked up with fatty deposits or cholesterol the blood can’t properly circulate and supply the body with life supporting oxygen. This is exactly what happens with your energy system!
By patiently yet continuously circulating qi one can blow out the blockages that impair qi flow. This of course has positive results in the body but also can be seen to improve ones emotional, mental and spiritual states.
After a few months (yes, sometimes it takes months) of proper and consistent performance one should start to feel some subtle differences within their practice. My students have started to talk about various experiences that they are peculiar to them but have the commonality of heat or tingling in the hands as well a feeling of connection between the hands/fingers and the dan tian.
Remember, Qigong is NOT a quick fix. Qigong is a proactive approach to health that must become part of your everyday lifestyle in order for it to do its “magic”.
Peace
Rod
