Lately I have been asking myself a specific question – “Should I continue delving into the massive variety of learning that I currently find myself playing with or should I STOP and FOCUS on what is currently in our present curriculum?”
I was talking to Kelly about this on the weekend and I related how it took me 30 years to recognize that my core strength is that I am a “jack of all trades” kind of guy. I ALWAYS have many interests on the go at any particular time. I am quite versed in many topics such as “Law”, commerce, energy work, philosophy, quantum physics and new technology, ancient wisdom traditions, consciousness studies, etc. So for me to stop learning something new everyday basically goes against my core strength. Yet… there is only so much one can stuff into their heads.
On the other hand, there is a lot to be said for mastering a specific curriculum, and I use the word “master” very specifically. To master something is extremely rare in my experience. There are probably less than one thousand true taijiquan masters in the world today out of the millions that study.
So for now I think I am content to keep the status quo and continue to look around for new lessons and ideas yet at the same time continuously refine the techniques and lessons within our curriculum.
That path just feels right.
Peace
Rod
