Taiji – A Living Art

Last week at class we had a bit of a discussion regarding the maturity rate of ones practice.
I spoke about how the arts grow due to the exponential learning curve that happens within the different styles and systems. What I mean by this, is that it could have taken a teacher 20 years to learn what they currently know but if a good student shows up it should only take 10 years to pass on his/her knowledge. Then when that student becomes a teacher then it will take then even less time to pass on the knowledge.
Now there will always be a maturity rate to take into consideration and what I mean by that is, one can learn the physical techniques of Taiji in say (for example) ten years but, have the lessons been absorbed into the students being? This absorption is imperative and should become manifest in the daily life of the player, only then can you know that the practice is maturing.
Just as in life, there is no distinct end point to Taiji or Qigong practice that one can point to. Sure one can say that I want to learn everything that my teacher can show me but realize, that will just be then end of the first chapter and the rest of the book is still awaiting your attention.
Keep learning and playing,
Rod
