The Most Important Concept in Tai Chi

The most important concept in Tai Chi is… ah… well… I think…. Hmmm… let me see…

That question is like nailing jello to the wall, it ain’t gonna work.

Tai Chi is an amalgamation of principles derived from the only true Law, which is Natural Law. It is in fact the combination of, and interconnection of, these basic natural tenets that makes Tai Chi the “Supreme Ultimate”.

Chapter One of the Tao Te Ching states, “that which can be named is not the Tao” and that philosophy holds true to Tai Chi. If one attempts to pull out one significant concept then neither that concept nor the balance could be considered complete Tai Chi.

In Tui Shou (push hands) the student learns the concepts of: stick, adhere, connect and follow and without any one of these four interconnected skills, you will be lacking and easily defeated.

If one receives the blessing of Song but never feels Qi then what has really been accomplished?

If one learns to conquer others but never himself can he be considered a Master?

The most important concept in Tai Chi cannot be found within Tai Chi.

One must look beyond the duality of Yin and Yang and seek the oneness of Wuji to answer that question.
